Here's what Shirley Anderson, legendary mentor, pioneer IAC certifier and Thomas Leonard's coach said about Sharing the Certification Journey...

I read your section Janice and thought it was totally wonderful. I have now read the whole book, and each section was individually different but equally inspiring. There is great basic information and advice in the book and it needs to be shared with every new coach. I especially appreciated how you each told the truth about what a long time it took you to feel competent (it takes practice, practice, practice for everybody), plus the various ways that you each did it. I love the term “volume coaching” that Kerri uses. This is literally how it is done. It is literally the answer to getting over "am I good enough" jitters for all coaches, not just those going for certification. I so get the brilliance of pushing yourself to do "ugly" coaching. I think this principle needs to be front and center in every coach training program: “More than 50% of your coaching training will come from doing coaching.” Your book lays that out with warmth, intelligence and humor.

In my opinion, lack of confidence in their coaching is what really keeps coaches from finding clients. So in truth, what you all have written is also a marketing manual.

CONGRATULATIONS on sharing how to get certified and, in the process, how to build your practice.

Here are some quotes from the contributing writers:

‘And when I finally came to the cross-roads of realizing that I was coaching one way for the exam, and another way for my paying clients, I knew I hadn’t woven the Proficiencies into the fabric of my coaching.’

‘I needed to steel my nerve, find my courage and build my confidence to make this commitment to certification. I also needed an outlook that would help me view this journey not as an onerous task but a choice that would inspire me.’

‘I didn’t get invested in any outcome because whenever that happened,  I would get into a tangle with a client. For me, one of the most important things that I learned, and this was not easy for me to learn, was to get out of my own way.’

‘I invoked Spirit and spent a few minutes connecting with my ‘inner wisdom’ whenever I sat down to record a coaching call.’

‘Around the same time, I realized that I needed to feel ‘certifiable’ as a coach within myself, or decisions made by others would not make a difference. This awareness enriched the certification journey.’

‘I’d say my certification journey was my real learning process. Even though I thought I was just studying the Proficiencies to reframe what I knew, they became a way of life.’

This is what other experienced coaches have said about the book...

Thank you for the book. It's amazing the different yet still similar paths that each coach took and how each of your personalities came through. I did find it inspiring to connect and see myself on my own certification journey, with all the bumps and curves as just that, a journey. Somehow it eased my 'performance anxiety' and helped me remember to be gentle with myself. What a wonderful contribution to Coaching and Coaches, so very much needed.

I really want to recommend the e-book put together by Janice et al....I read it on the train the other day and was delighted by the variety of the people involved. I found myself resonating with so much of what they said..."would I be good enough?, will I have the stamina?, will my coaching be up to it?" and it was such a comfort to hear all that from these 6 people who have successfully passed. It's certainly given me a lot of courage to set my ego aside, get my sleeves rolled up and get stuck into practising! If you are feeling a bit wobbly or unsure...I'd really recommend this e-book!

A recently certified IAC coach tells how she found our book useful...

I can't remember how I found out about your site. I also wasn't sure what a passing tape meant at that time. Your ebook allowed me to gain an intimate glimpse into coaching snippets, a beautiful variety of paths through life's highs and lows toward achievement, a multitude of key questions and the confidence to create my own style and forge my own path.

It's a funny thing this certification piece... you start having a feeling that you want to pass, you hear some tapes that move you and then your journey starts and you plunge into an unknown.

I wrote out a master sheet for myself from your book, reviewed it prior to coaching and coached. I ploughed through everything and practised with a myriad of individuals willing to share their lives with me.

Once again, thank you for contributing to my progress.
